Mentoring

"One of the greatest values of mentors is the ability to see ahead what others cannot see and to help them navigate a course to their destination." - John C. Maxwell

Calling all Mentors and Mentees!

A program of Prince's Trust Canada, Operation Entrepreneur (POE) invites you to participate in our six-month mentoring program! To date we have successfully hand-matched 40 new entrepreneurs (veterans, graduates of our seven-day entrepreneurial boot camps and military spouses) with 40 successful entrepreneurs or senior business professionals. Together they worked on goal setting, strategic direction and streamlining operations.

Check out the MENTOR or MENTEE tabs to see if this is right for you!

About POE

Founded in 2012, Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur (POE) has become the hub of entrepreneurship for the Canadian military community. By engaging military, civilian, academic, and corporate collaborators, plus hundreds of volunteers, POE provides a continuum of training and support services needed for veterans and their families to start and grow successful businesses.

For veterans, entrepreneurship provides three key elements necessary for a successful transition to civilian life: a new life purpose, a new group identity, and an opportunity to continue to serve.

As of Fall 2019, 526 veterans have graduated from one of 27 seven-day business boot camps and started over 390 businesses; 2500+ could-be entrepreneurs have explored second career options at one of 104 introductory one-day workshops; and hundreds more have taken advantage of easily accessible online support services and confidence boosting networking opportunities.

In 2016, POE launched the online business directory buyveteran.ca. The 2017 and 2018 #BuyVeteranCA campaigns drew the attention of 1.1 million Canadians providing them the opportunity to support veterans and their families year-round. The 2019 #BuyVeteranCA campaign runs November 1-10, 2019.

With support from generous sponsors and donors, all Prince's Trust Canada's programs and services are offered free.

"The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own." - Benjamin Disraeli

Mentors You are an experienced entrepreneur or business professional, with or without military experience, who is able to provide perspective, advice and support for a veteran entrepreneur. You possess the soft skills and empathy needed to work at the entrepreneurs' pace and are willing to commit 2-4 hours per month for six months. The mentoring sessions can be in-person or remote and focus on both business and personal growth. POE provides training and support throughout.

The importance and benefits of having a mentor and continuously making connections is central to all Operation Entrepreneur programs. We hope you will join our network and community.

Your mentee will be a current or former member of the Canadian Armed forces or military spouse and either graduated one of our seven- day entrepreneurial boot camps or have an equivalent level of experience. They have identified that having a mentor is the missing piece of the puzzle and are ready to take actionable steps in improving their business. Mentees agree to commit 2-4 hours per month over six months in addition to time spent applying their learning.

The program includes a straightforward intake process for optimal matching, as well as training for both mentor and mentee.  Support in goal and boundary setting are provided to set up the mentoring relationship for success. Check-ins and support from the POE team will help mentors and mentees troubleshoot challenges, mitigate barriers and issues of fit, and celebrate successes.
